More about the conditions we treat
Anxiety and panic attacks
Anxiety becomes a problem when worry or fear is persistent, hard to control, or starts shaping your decisions. Panic attacks involve sudden surges of intense fear with physical symptoms such as a racing heart, breathlessness or dizziness. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective treatments for both.
Depression and mood disorders
Depression is more than feeling sad. It can affect sleep, energy, concentration, motivation and how you see yourself. Therapy helps identify what's maintaining low mood and builds practical steps towards re-engaging with life.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
OCD involves unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) used to reduce distress. The strongest evidence-based treatment is CBT with exposure and response prevention, which helps people reduce compulsions and tolerate uncertainty.
Agoraphobia
Agoraphobia involves fear and avoidance of situations where escape might feel difficult, such as crowds, public transport or being away from home. Treatment gradually rebuilds confidence in these situations at a manageable pace.
Adjustment disorder
Major life changes, such as separation, job loss, illness or relocation, can trigger distress that feels out of proportion or lasts longer than expected. Short-term therapy can help you adapt, problem-solve and regain stability.
Personality disorders
Long-standing patterns in how people manage emotions, relationships and their sense of self can cause ongoing distress. Structured, consistent therapy can help build emotional regulation and more stable relationships.
Flashbacks and post-traumatic stress
Flashbacks are vivid, intrusive re-experiences of a traumatic event that can feel as if it's happening again. They're a common feature of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Working with your supports
Coordinated care means everyone supporting you is working towards the same goals, and you don't have to repeat your story to each of them. If you feel supported by your GP, your psychologist can keep your GP informed of your progress and liaise with other professionals involved in your care, such as a psychiatrist, school or workplace rehabilitation provider.
Worried about someone else?
If you're concerned about a partner, family member or friend, you can contact us to talk through options. For adults, we'll need their agreement before booking, but we can explain how therapy works so you can support them to take the next step.

FAQ
Things to Know about Trauma
Is everything I share during sessions confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a core principle of our practice. Everything you share is kept private, except in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if disclosure is required by law. Your trust and safety are our priorities.
What can I expect in and after starting therapy?
Our aim is to offer a space that feels safe, supportive, and empowering, where healing is possible. Whether it was something recent, something long ago, or something you’re still living through, we're here to help. At Connect Corner Clinic, our psychologists and mental health social workers are trained in trauma-informed approaches that create a safe and supportive environment for healing. Speak with your practitioner and allow them to introduce you to some of the approaches that can be used. Our practitioners will help you understand what’s available, so you can begin to imagine what support could look like for you (or your child).
What if I don't think I'm ready to talk about everything yet?
That’s okay. You don’t have to share your whole story on the first session. If you’re here, you may be feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or even scared about starting therapy. It's how any person would feel when they are carrying the weight of past trauma, painful memories, or emotional difficulties that feel too big to manage alone. The truth is that simply reaching this page is an act of courage. And we’re here to walk alongside you as you take the next step.
Therapy is tailored to your pace and your goals. The role of your therapist isn’t to pressure or push, but to gently support you in building tools to feel more in control of your emotions, your memories, and your life.
How do I know what I'm dealing with is Trauma?
Trauma results from exposure to single-incident or repeated incidents of severe distress. This can include multiple interpersonal traumatic events (often beginning in childhood) within a caregiving relationship. It often leads to lasting impacts on emotional regulation, self-esteem and interpersonal functioning. Trauma can severely affect identity, attachment, emotional regulation, and trust in others
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, we offer both in-person and online counselling sessions to provide flexible support. Virtual sessions are conducted securely, ensuring the same level of confidentiality and care as face-to-face appointments.
